New England Chapter of the Gesneriad Society
NETGS - Who We Are
We are the New England Chapter of The Gesneriad Society. We are a local horticultural society formed in 1961. We have members from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New York, and other states, and support plant research worldwide.
This chapter is a part of the The Gesneriad Society, the international association for people who enjoy growing, showing, hybridizing, funding research, and discovering and sharing information about this family of plants.
We seek to bring together people of all ages interested in learning about, or sharing their expertise in growing the marvelous Gesneriaceae family of plants.
Due to COVID Quarantine restrictions, we are now holding online ZOOM meetings instead. Please check our Home Page for Dates and Times, and if a member, please check your copy of our Newsletter, Bells & Slippers, for login information. If you are new to our group and are interested in attending one of our meetings, please contact us and we can provide access information.
This chapter has been holding face-to-face meetings the 1st Sunday of the month at the Pompositticut Community Center of Stow, MA 01775, from October thru June. We socialize, sell plants or share cuttings, then hold a business meeting, and present a program on some aspect of cultivating gesneriads. We also hold a 'Little Show' where a few plants are judged (from 12-1PM) just prior to our meeting start of 1PM.
Instead of a regular meeting we hold a Potluck Holiday Party at a member's home in December and a Potluck Picnic in a member's home in June.
Bells and Slippers is our monthly meeting newsletter sent out to our members. We meet from October thru June and hold an annual show and sale in September at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in West Boylston, MA. We frequently participate in activities and events by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and the Gesneriad Society.
