Our Chapter was formed in 1961, and is still going strong!
Our Chapter at our 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2011
The history of our chapter was described in two papers (readable by clicking them on the bottom of this page), that were included in a booklet "The Gesneriad Society New England Chapter, 1961-2011, Fiftieth Anniversary" distributed at our 50th Anniversary. One is a summary of our chapter's activities from 1961 thru 1986, written by Alice Courage, and the second one covers 1986 thru 2011 and was compiled from our newsletters by our member Lilya Veneziano.
Mary Bozoian was NETGS President at the time, and here is her introduction to that booklet:
This booklet, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the New England Chapter, summarizes the chapter's activities from its origin in 1961 to the present. The first twenty-five years were compiled and presented in 1986 by Alice Courage assisted by Julie Morgan and others. An effort was made to keep their material intact.
The 'Bells and Slippers", our chapter newsletter, is the main sources of information for the second twenty-five years. Much thanks goes to Lilya Veneziano for going through her newsletters and noting pertinent dates and events. Many members contributed to the success of our New England Chapter, but the brevity of this summary limits mention of everyone's service.
We thank you all, past and present members, for your investment of time and talent that brings us to this celebration of our 50th Anniversary.
